【Abstract】 With the rapid development of our country'seducation, the progress of English teaching in higher vocationalcolleges is gradually developed. Effective teaching become animportant teaching concept and goal of all school courses. Thisarticle, analyzes the present situation of English teaching in highervocational colleges, and points out that the shortcomings in theprocess of higher vocational English(HVE) teaching. Finally,attempt to explore some effective strategies to improve the qualityof HVE teaching.

1. Introduction
With the arrival of the era of economic globalization, theexchanges and cooperation between countries are becoming moreand more frequent. English, as an international language, plays avery important role in the international communication. Therefore,the higher vocational colleges to cultivate the talents of the first lineof society have paid more attention to the English teaching. Onlyby improving the level of English education in order to improve theoverall level of education in higher vocational colleges, to enhancethe comprehensive strength of college students. This paper firstlydiscussed the present situation of the HVE teaching and the existingproblems. Then from the teacher' teaching practice, probes intothe effective teaching of HVE. At last, put forward some feasiblecountermeasures and measures summarized.
2. Present situation of English teaching in higher vocationalcolleges
2.1 The lack of teachers and the quality of studentsFrom the perspective of the educational background ofteachers, the vast majority of vocational college teachers with amore solid basic skills in English. However, due to the shortage ofunderstanding of the professional requirements of the actual job.
Eventually, resulting in theoretical teaching and practical workpost demand had divorced.
2.2 Single teaching method
There are 100% of the teachers used a tape recorder, 62%of the teachers used the language laboratory in the classroomteaching, a few of teachers use other teaching equipment.
2.3 The students' consciousness of vocational educationinstitutions is slightly worse
Vocational education college students' consciousness is abit poor, and a general lack of initiative in learning, however fornon professional courses of college English is lack of interestin learning. In this case, a lot of occupation colleges use thetraditional “What I say goes” cramming method of teaching,and its teaching effect is not good.
3. Effective teaching methods in HVE teaching3.1 Attach importance to skill training, pay attention topractice link
HVE teaching should reflect the vocational education featureswith skill and practicality. So teaching should be based on taskbased teaching method, constructing of the student center, centerexperience,activities in the center of the teaching mode. Accordingto different majors, the English class can be realistic and diverse.
3.2 In accordance with their aptitude, hierarchical teachingDue to the complexity of the students in higher vocationalcolleges, the English level is uneven. We accordance with thedevelopment of each student, and the different situations ofstudents to organize different classroom teaching, in order toobtain a better teaching effect.
3.3 To cultivate students' interest in learning EnglishAccording to students' categories: attitude, skill and cognitionfrom low to high. Each category corresponds to different levels oflearning, the higher the level of the corresponding subject contentis more complex, mastery of the subject is also more accessible.
The goals of attitude are usually aimed at the awakening andgrowth of attitudes, emotions and feelings.
4. Discussion
This research analyzed the present situation of Englishteaching in higher vocational colleges, and points out that theshortcomings in the process of HVE teaching. Then attempt toexplore some effective strategies to improve the quality of HVEteaching. In short, to improve teaching methods, and ultimatelyachieve effective teaching, depends on the joint efforts of teachersand students of colleges and universities.
